2002 hit-and-run case: Salman Khan was not drunk, no mention by ‘star witness’, says defence

Lawyers defending the actor Salman Khan in the case hit-and-run 2002 argued before the Supreme Court on Tuesday that “star witness” in the case, Ravindra Patil, had not mentioned a word about the actor being drunk or smelling alcohol, when he had made his first statement to the police. Patil, a police officer assigned as bodyguards Mumbai Khan, was the first to inform the police about the accident. It was based on his claim that a FIR was registered in Bandra police station. Patil had died of tuberculosis a few years later. On May 6, Khan was convicted of culpable homicide not amounting to murder, in the case of hit and run. One man was killed and four people were injured in the incident. The prosecution case is that white Toyota Landcruiser actor stepped over the men sleeping on a pavement in suburban Bandra.
